Brian & Brett shine at Canadian Western Championships

"Two swimmers of the Bulkey Valley Otters Swim Club participated at the Western Championships in Winnipeg this weekend. Both Brian Dohler (17) and Brett Zollen (17) were qualified to race in 3 events, and worked hard all season to be prepared for this long weekend.

Brian Dohler's specialties are Long Distance Freestyle and Sprint/Middle Distance Backstroke. He improved his 800m Freestyle time by 10 seconds (8:51.30), and achieved his goal to get under 1:00min on his 100m Backstroke (59.92). In addition, he took 4 seconds off his personal best time on his 200 Backstroke (2:08.45) and swam Finals in this event.

Brett Zollen is a Breaststroke and Freestyle Sprint/Middle Distance specialty swimmer. He also did very well by improving two out of three Personal Best times: His results: 100m Freestyle 53.76 / 200m Freestyle 1:58.09 100m Breaststroke 1:08.76.

Dohler and Zollen certainly draw attention from Swim BC by their fantastic results, being the top swimmers of Points North.

 HISTORY OF THE BV OTTERS

The BV Otters are a competitive swim club that has been in operation since 1991 thanks to parents who seized the opportunity that came with the opening of the BV Regional Pool. We are a Winter Club - which means we swim from September to June each year.

Over the last 20 years, the club has continued to expand in membership and quality of performance. Many Otters through hard work and dedication attain times which allow them to compete in swim meets at the Provincial and National levels.

We are one of five amateur swim clubs spanning the area between Smithers and the Queen Charlotte Islands that form the Northwest Region of our parent organization -Swim BC. While many of our meets are held within our region, we also regularly compete in Prince George and other communities throughout BC.  When our team travels to meets outside of our region we travel as Points North Swim Association, which is currently comprised of Smithers, Terrace, Kitimat and Prince Rupert.  Massett also belonged to Points North but have had to recently close their pool down and are waiting to have another built, we hope to have them back soon.
